ABOUT SHERIDAN FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH

Our History & Today’s Church

“By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.” – Proverbs 24:3

1885

Sheridan First Christian Church was organized in 1885. Our first church building was completed and dedicated in 1886. All lumber was donated, but the bill to saw the logs was $50.00.

1911

Our present building was dedicated in February 1911. The cost to build this historical building was $17,500. We have maintained many of the original features such as beautiful and irreplaceable stained glass windows and oak pews.

1964

The Educational Building first held Sunday School classes in January 1964. It was dedicated on September 27, 1964.

1976

Sunday, January 24, 1976 was the beginning of a new era when a woman started serving as an elder.

Today

The members and friends of Sheridan First Christian Church honor our past, yet our message is relevant for today. We have a long tradition of serving the Sheridan community, and our reach extends to international missions.

Our Minister: Rev. Mike Srbljan

Mike has been in congregational leadership since the early 1980s when he was ordained as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and then as a Commissioned Lay Pastor (CLP) in that same denomination.

He earned his Master of Divinity, Magna Cum Laude, from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis and was ordained to the Office of Ministry in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

He most recently has been called to be Senior Minister at Sheridan First Christian Church, where he has served since January 1, 2023. He has served congregations in Illinois and Indiana as Interim Minister, Senior Minister and Sunday Pastor roles. Also, he serves and has served the Indiana Region as a member of a Nurture and Certification Team, Regional Board Treasurer and Board Member of the Indiana Interchurch Center.

Mike has earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Illinois – Springfield and is co-owner of Chrysalis Enterprises, Inc. which provides database management systems and bookkeeping services to churches across the country.

He and his lovely wife, Karen, live in Noblesville, and have five grandchildren — three in Noblesville and two in El Dorado Hills, California, along with Molly, their American Cocker Spaniel. His long-term goal is eventually to be fully retired, although Lord knows when!

We join hands with international partners and walk together in mutual love and respect with our siblings around the world.
